Macy is Dr Etnyre's therapy dog who sometimes accompanies her to work and assists her with children who are having a particularly difficult time.

As told by Macy:

My picture with the tiara might make it look like I’ve had a pretty easy life, but I have come a long way to get here.  In 2004, I was turned into the Idaho Humane Society because I was reportedly not a very good hunting dog for someone.  I was two years old at the time.  Even though I was scared and in a strange new place, this turned out to be the best thing that could have happened to me.  I soon met my mom at the Humane Society’s annual See Spot Walk fundraiser.  She was a volunteer dog walker and had the opportunity to be my walker!  We immediately connected.  At the time, I was in the middle of participating in the Inmate Dog Alliance Project of Idaho (IDAPI) training program in order to provide me with basic training.  I lived in the prison for a few months with a very nice trainer who was an inmate.  Since so many people wanted to adopt me after seeing me at the See Spot Walk, there was a lottery for some lucky person that I would live with for the rest of my life.  That person happened to be my volunteer walker.

I am very happy now.  Even though it was extremely anxiety provoking for me to be moved around from a home to the shelter, then the prison, and finally to my mom, it turned out for the best for both of us.  It took a while for me to know that I wasn’t going to have any more changes anytime soon.  Changes are getting a little easier for me.  So now, I can make kids who are scared, anxious, sad, or not feeling well feel a little better- and I certainly know what it’s like!

Since being adopted, I have done many fun things.  I went through a long training program so I could volunteer at St. Luke’s hospital and visit kids and adults who are not feeling very well.  Most people really cheer up when the volunteer pet therapy dogs come in.  This year, I began doing agility and it is super fun.  My favorite is racing through the tunnels.  I am getting pretty good at the jumps and other things too.  The weave poles are a little tricky sometimes.

That’s my story.  If you happen to see me, I like being petted.  You may notice that my nails are usually painted pink.  I feel like a true princess now and that’s what matters!
